The Battle for California Continues SENATE BILL 270
After years of intense lobbying by the Surfrider Foundation and other Environmental preservation organizations, on August 31 2014 the California State Assembly passed Senateted Bill 270. Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill effectively making California the first state in U.S. to ban single use plastic bags at most retailers statewide.
The law was to take effect in July of 2015; but due to corporate interest led by APBA "American Progressive Bag Alliance" SB- 270 was suspended. The law will now be placed on the general election ballot for vote in November 2016 listed as Proposition 67.
