We thank all of our Beach Cleanup Volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you!

NEW 2013 Dates/Locations have been posted below.
Please note: Each Date has a unique location in efforts to clean a larger
part of our local beaches throughout the year. Please read the info below for important FAQ’s and more.

Beach cleanups are a fun and easy way to volunteer your time by helping to keep our beaches and ocean clean! We provide the bags, hand sanitizer and a gorgeous view. If you need community service hours we have certificates of completion available. We welcome individuals of all ages, schools clubs, Scouts, companies, and other large groups. We are always looking for volunteers to help at the booth as well as participate in the cleanups.

Frequently Asked Questions about our Beach Cleanups:
~ Number 1 most popular question: Do I need to sign up ahead of time?A. No, you can “just show up” in the morning and sign in. Its that simple! Cya there…
~ Q. Can I bring my kids, friends or a group? A. Yes. For groups of 30+, just send us a quick email: hsbchair[@]hsbsurfrider.org and let us know how many you expect to have. Please read through the rest of the FAQ’s below before emailing. Kids of all ages are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We cannot watch anyone once they are dropped off or cleaning the beach.
~ Q. Do I need to bring anything? A. No, but if you have work gloves and a bucket, bring them. (Summer time: Hat, Sunblock)
~ Q. Do I have to stay the whole four hours? A. No. You can help out for any length of time. (The cleanups run for 4hrs)
~ Q. How do I get to Bolsa Chica State Beach? A.  Click Here (Between Seapoint & Warner on PCH)
~ Q. How do I get to the other locations? A. Use Google Maps or other maps or see dates/locations below. All cleanups are off of PCH near the bike path.
~ Q. Will you do special beach cleanups aside from your normal dates? A. No, please realize we have 20 plus beach cleanups scheduled with the City and State each year. We are fully loaded with these special cleanups throughout the year and cannot accommodate any “extra” cleanups on separate dates. Please do not request them as we get hundreds of emails weekly. You are always welcome to participate in the beach cleanup dates below. Thank you for understanding! You can however request one for the upcoming years dates and even become a sponsor of a future date.
~ Q. Can you sign my volunteer hours sheet or do you have a certificates of completion? A. Yes but you MUST show us that you participated.
~ Q. Do I have to pay for parking? A. Yes and No. No, at Bolsa Chica State Beach it is free from 8am-10am.  Yes, possibly other locations have metered parking or free parking street in the residential area.

~ Q. Do your beach cleanups change locations? A. Yes, we are moving our beach cleanups around quite a bit this year to clean a larger area of our beaches. Always check the locations below before heading down to the cleanup.
~ Q. Do you ever cancel or reschedule a beach cleanup due to Weather?
A. Yes–if it is lightly raining, we “might” have the cleanup. Always check our FACEBOOK page the morning of the event to see if we are still holding it. If there are heavy rains, the cleanup will be canceled.
~ Q. Can our company setup a tent/tables at the beach cleanup?
A. Typically Yes–but only down on the beach at least 100 yards away from the Surfrider tent/setup. The City and State beaches do not like corporate sponsors to be displayed with “our” setup but anyone can put up a tent on the beach. We suggest not putting up a banner.

Please Note: PLASTIC BAGS – GLOVES HAVE BEEN PHASED OUT AT OUR BEACH CLEANUPS. In an effort to send less trash to the landfill we are asking that beach cleanup volunteers bring their own reusable bucket, reusable bag or a bag(s) from home that you would throw out anyway. Also, please bring work or garden gloves to use rather then then latex/disposable ones if possible. We no longer provide plastic gloves. Thanks!

All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a Liability Waiver that will be available at the beach for you to sign.

Thank you Kohl’s Beach cleanup crew!
