More Than 5,000 Volunteers Cleaned up our Beaches in 2009!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Huntington/Seal Beach Surfrider would like to extend a big thank you to all of the volunteers that helped us protect our ocean, waves and beaches in 2009. In fact, so far 5,077 of you helped us cleanup the beaches in Huntington/Seal Beach this year!

BeachCleanUpSaatchi2009Trash builds up on our beaches from several sources. In the summer months there are many visiting the beaches that sometimes forget to take out all the trash that they brought. During the winter months rainy weather brings all the trash on our streets into the flood channels that dump into our ocean, this trash washes up on our beaches.RiverJettyTrash

It is important to make sure you pick up trash wherever you are. Trash from inland and the beach that is not disposed of properly ends up in the ocean harming sea life and polluting our oceans and beaches.

When visiting the beach, make sure to take out all the trash brought in, and pick up a few extra pieces for good measure.
